Safe Place to Land by Ryan Ramirez Webb — 5 tear-stained hot air balloons out of 5
Sylvia’s not crying, you’re crying. It is, in fact, your tears that are being carried upon the wind to the four corners of the earth, mixing with silt and sand and imbuing them with the senseless yet undeniable knowledge that it was true love, it was true love, dammit! Sylvia may not be crying, but her otherworldly counterparts certainly are.

Ten Things That Never Happened by Alexis Hall — 5 Huh? Who?s out of 5
Sylvia Barry read this book. She thinks. No, she definitely read it and loved it, she was just pretending she’d forgotten because the waves like to think they wash everything away and she didn’t want to hurt their feelings. Sylvia’s homonculi adored it as well and found it, ironically, unforgettable.

The Bennet Women by Eden Appiah-Kubi — 5 awwrrgh awwrrughs out of 5
Sylvia Barry read this book as part of her feminist sealion bookclub, which gave it the above rating, and Sylvia wholeheartedly agrees. Sylvia’s human handlers have always been suckers for Pride and Prejudice retellings and this one did not dissapoint!

Head Over Heelflip by Sander Santiago – 5 ghost flips out of 5
Sylvia Barry adored this book so much she bought a copy for every seagull she knows. Sylvia’s reality bros also had a great time with this book and its fantastic mix of heartwarming nostalgia and heart-rending vulnerabilities.

Peter Darling by S.A. Chant – 5 lost thimbles out of 5
Sylvia Barry read this book in secret, by the light of an oil lamp, hiding under a blanket. The book was spectacular, and the flames even more so. Sylvia’s corporeal representatives are maybe a tiny bit obsessed with this book to a definitely healthy degree.

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall - 5 haunted clamshells out of 5
Sylvia Barry read this book aloud in her best British accent to the clouds and seaspray from the top of her lighthouse, and the elements approved. Sylvia’s earthly avatars prefer the audiobook.
